On Wednesday, September 12, 2018, Freetown police officers made two warrant arrests.
At 7:45 PM, Patrolmen Patrick Lee and K-9 Officer Thomas Long intended to serve a “Do Not Release” arrest warrant on Jeffrey Costa, age 40, of Richmond Road. After arriving on scene, knocking on the door, and announcing their presence, the officers observed Costa enter the kitchen area, turn off the interior lights, and disappear from view. Because Costa ignored the officers’ repeated knocking and announcements, Sergeant Elton Ashley and Patrolman John Pina arrived to assist.
Police then forced open a door and began a sweep of the residence. K-9 Officer Long deployed K-9 Koda and, within minutes, K-9 Koda alerted to Costa’s location. Costa was found hiding in a closet and under a large pile of clothing and blankets. Costa, who was allegedly intoxicated, was arrested and brought to the police station where he was booked, before being transported to the house of correction.
At 10:15 PM, Patrolman John Pina and K-9 Officer Thomas Long intended to serve a “Do Not Release” arrest warrant on Nathan Henriques, age 24, of Chace Road. After arriving on scene, the officers determined that Henriques was hiding in an upper level of the home. Patrolmen Patrick Lee responded to assist.
Before beginning a search and without the need to deploy K-9 Koda, officers conferred with members of Henriques’ family who were present. Shortly thereafter, Henriques surrendered himself. He was arrested and brought to the police station where he was booked, before being transported to the house of correction.
