FREETOWN, MA – The Freetown Police Department is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $39,920.19 in funds from the Edward J. Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, administered by the Office of Grants and Research (OGR) at the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS). The grant, totaling nearly $5 million, was distributed among 130 police departments statewide. The goal of this grant is to address unmet public safety priorities within communities.
The funds allocated to the Freetown Police Department will be dedicated to enhancing school safety training, with a particular focus on the Freetown Elementary School. The department plans to utilize the grant to acquire state-of-the-art equipment for active shooter response training, ensuring officers are well-prepared to handle critical situations. The purchase of protective gear, including tactical vest carriers, body armor plates, and ballistic helmets, will further enhance the safety of our officers.
Police Chief Scott Rose expressed his gratitude for the award, stating, “We are truly appreciative of the support provided by the Edward J. Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Program. This funding will significantly contribute to our efforts to ensure the safety of our community, especially in our schools. The acquisition of advanced training equipment and protective gear underscores our commitment to proactive public safety measures.”
